The Unique You (Pt 3): Life After College

To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is the greatest accomplishment.

| Ralph Waldo Emerson |

Following the the first 2 parts of the 'Unique' series (Pt 1 & Pt 2), we can see the thread of your uniqueness weaving its way every part of your life. By now you should begin to grasp this fact, realizing that you are designed just the way you are to positively impact your society and even the world.

For some young people finishing school, without even thinking, they perceive that the normal course of advancement would be stepping into higher education. As Desiderius Erasmus once said, the main hope of a nation lies in the proper education of its youth. We believe this to be an important factor in reshaping nations and equipping our future leaders to bring positive change to their nation. Education expands the mind, increases curiosity, builds creative thinking skills and creates a high standard of discipline. I strongly believe that education is also one of the tools that helps you identify your skills and purpose.

An excerpt from a famous poem by William Henry Davies reads:

What is this life if, full of care,

We have no time to stand and stare…

If only we took a moment to stop and stare – to consider the ‘design’ in nature around you. From the ant, the dung beetle to the mighty lion and the great big whale shark, you will see clearly a unique purpose each one plays in helping the world continue to thrive. If all the bees went extinct, it would affect the ecosystem, in turn this could disrupt global supplies and could even lead to the extinction of man. If everything in nature has so much purpose, you – as an unique person - must have something much greater to contribute to society.

Someone once said, everyone should write down their life stories as lessons for the future generations. Looking back one day, you will realise that your life journey was 100% unique to you. Right there lies the absolute truth in the fact that we are all individuals with diverse uniqueness. Let’s not fall into the trap of trying to copy others or striving to be someone we are not meant to be.

Let me conclude here by saying that you are unique and you, yes even you reading this now, have something positive to contribute to your society and nation that no one else but you can do.
