Available Student Grants

Fulbright Malaysian Graduate Study and Research Program

The Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) is pleased to announce its annual competition for Fulbright grants for graduate level study (Masters or Ph.D degrees) in the United States for FY2021-2022 academic year. Awards will be partial grants or otherwise require cost-sharing from the candidate’s home institution, scholarships or other funding from the admitting university or from personal resources. 

The amount of any specific award will be based upon available funding and other criteria as determined by the academic committee during the selection process. All decisions regarding category and amount of grant shall be final. Similarly, the amount of renewal funding shall be contingent upon financial circumstances affecting the Commission. For graduate degree grants, efforts will be made to retain funding levels from the first to the second year. However, students should not assume this will take place.

2020-2021 Fulbright Malaysian Scholar Program

Applications are now invited from the qualified Malaysian scholars to undertake a 3-6 months of research/lecturing at the American universities during the FY2020/2021 academic year (August through June).

The Malaysian Fulbright Scholar Program provides opportunities for Malaysian academics to develop or update their research through interaction with distinguished counterparts in the United States. By providing a mechanism and support for meeting and interacting with the best of American scholars, the program seeks to promote dialogue on subjects of mutual interest to Malaysia and the United States.

While these grants are typically researched focused, applicants who are prepared to add a lecturing component to their proposals are particularly encouraged to apply. Further, all grantees will be asked to develop strategies for sharing Malaysian culture with social, civic and other groups while in the United States.

2020-2021 Fulbright Malaysian Professional Exchange Program

The Malaysian-American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE) invites applications for the Fulbright Malaysian Professional Exchange Program for the 2020/2021 academic year (August to June). It is a 3-6 months program in the United States. The purpose of the grant is to enable mid-career Malaysian professionals in the public or private sectors to broaden their experience through research, lecturing and other professional enrichment programs. These grants are meant for practitioners rather than scholars; administrators, managers of organizations / associations / services, journalist, doctors and lawyers are encouraged to apply.

2020-2021 Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship Program [Mid-career Training in the U.S.]

We are pleased to announce the competition for the Hubert H. Humphrey Fellowship program. The Hubert. H. Humphrey Fellowship Program is a Fulbright Program that brings accomplished young and mid-career professionals with demonstrated leadership potential to the United States for a year of non-degree graduate level study, leadership development, and substantive professional collaboration with U.S. counterparts. By providing future leaders and policy makers with experience in U.S. society, culture, and professional fields, the program provides a basis for lasting, productive ties between Americans and their professional counterparts overseas. Fellows are nominated based on potential for leadership and commitment to public service. Primary funding for the Humphrey program is provided by the Department’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs from its Congressional appropriation for exchanges.

FY 2020-2021 Fulbright U.S. – ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program

The Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA) is pleased to announce the FY2020 competition for the Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program, regionally competed awards for Visiting Scholars that will support ASEAN initiatives. The Fulbright U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholar Program is open to university faculty, foreign ministry or other government officials, and professional staff of private sector, think tanks and other NGOs in ASEAN Member States. Selected U.S.-ASEAN Visiting Scholars will travel to the United States for three to four months during the Spring of 2021, where they will carry out scholarly and professionally research on priority issues to the U.S.-ASEAN relationships and ASEAN. Projects should be selected that are regional in scope and/or have clear implications for the entire ASEAN region.  Nominations will be accepted from all ASEAN Member States. It is anticipated that 10 qualified applicants will be selected by a U.S.-ASEAN selection committee, including one participant from each of the 10 ASEAN Member States.

FY2020-2021 Global Undergraduate Exchange Program-UGRAD

The Global Undergraduate Exchange Program (Global UGRAD) provides a diverse group of emerging student leaders with a scholarship for one semester of non-degree academic study at a U.S. college or university. The program is sponsored by the U.S Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs, and aims to recruit participants from under-represented, non-elite backgrounds, who have not had other opportunities to study in the United States. Successful applicants can expect an in-depth exposure to U.S. society, culture, and academic institutions, as well as opportunities to enhance their professional skills.
All participants will be enrolled in full-time, non-degree, undergraduate course work chosen from their host institution’s existing curriculum. Participants will be required to take one, 3-credit U.S. studies course to enhance their understanding of the United States. Participants will live in campus housing facilities with American peers, and will be required to participate in twenty hours of community service. There will also be a virtual arrival orientation and an in-person end-of-program workshop.

FY2020-2021 Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program

The Fulbright Teaching Excellence and Achievement Program (Fulbright TEA) is sponsored by the U.S. Department of States, Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and administered by IREX. Fulbright TEA Program brings international teachers to the United States for a six-week program beginning January or September 2021 to take academic seminars for professional development at a host university and to observe and share their expertise with teachers and students at the host university and at local primary and secondary schools.

Three grants are available for Malaysian secondary school teachers of English, English as a Foreign Language (EFL), Math, Science, and Social Studies, including Special Education teachers in those subjects. Please note that as a Fulbright program, all Fulbright TEA program policies and participants will be subject to the regulations for teacher exchange participants established by the J. William Fulbright Foreign Scholarship Board (FFSB). 

University of Melbourne Student Grants

Over 150 bursaries established by various generous bequests and donations to assist students in financial need.

University of Melbourne Housing Bursary

This scholarship is awarded to assists students who need live away from home in order to attend University.

Science & Technology Award

Two (2) awards of RM30,000 each to deserving Malaysian scientists/researchers in recognition of his/her outstanding achievements/discoveries/contributions in Science and Technology.

Science & Technology Research Grant

Ten (10) or fifteen (15) Research Grants of up to RM60,000 each for Malaysian researchers below 40 years of age pursuing basic research in science and technology (limited to the fields of natural sciences, including the environment, but excluding clinical medicine and mathematics), inclusive of grants totalling Yen5 Million funded by Toray Science Foundation, Japan.

Science Education Award (SEA)

Ten (10) to fifteen (15) prizes, ranging from RM2,000 up to RM10,000 each, for Malaysian science teachers/educators in secondary schools, technical schools, education centres and Pre-university colleges in recognition of their innovative and effective teaching methods in science education.

Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation Inno Fund

Innovation contributes to productivity, economic growth and societal wellness. It can be the recombination, fusion or integration of technologies that lead to new products, processes or services or the refinement of existing technologies with improved value enhanced efficiency or cost reduction. The final result of innovation is new products, processes or systems by which value can be created for customers, businesses and society. Realizing the importance of innovation for wealth creation and social well-being, the Government initiated the Innovation Fund.
